Hyperpigmentation is where we can develop areas which are darker as extra melanin has been deposited here.

This darker areas can become obvious and frustrating for some patients .

There are varying different causes of this excess melanin : UV damage or exposure, hormones/ pregnancy, medication or trauma.

This pigment could be present from UV damage which has happened within the skin many years ago or it could be something which has developed quiet recent with something like pregnancy

Hypo-pigmentation is when the melanocytes reduce or stop producing melanin which creates a light or beached effect on the skin.
